IMPHAL, Jan 29 : Asserting that Chief Minister O Ibobi who was also in charge of Home Department when Chungkham Sanjit was allegedly killed in a fake encounter in 2009 cannot feign ignorance about the killing, BJP Manipur Pradesh has demanded resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi.
A statement issued by BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba further demanded suspension of Imphal West SP AK Jhalajit, the then Additional SP under whose instruction Sanjit was shot dead as per the confessions of Head Constable Thounaojam Herojit.
The killing of Thokchom Rabina and Ch Sanjit on July 23, 2009 is one of the 1200 cases of fake encounter carried out by State forces under Chief Minister O Ibobi between 2002 and 2012.
After a petition was filed by Sanjit’s mother at Gauhati High Court, the CBI registered a case and investigated the twin killings.
After six years of investigation, Head Constable Th Herojit confessed before media that he shot dead Sanjit with a 9 mm pistol issued to him under direct instruction of Addl SP AK Jhalajit (now Imphal West SP).
Even as Sanjit was unarmed, Herojit pumped in as many as six bullets.
The Chief Minister and the then DGP should have a fair knowledge about how unarmed Sanjit was killed in a fake encounter, said BJP.
Even as Opposition MLAs raised the issue in the State Assembly the next day, Chief Minister O Ibobi maintained that “there was no other option than to kill Sanjit”, Chaoba quoted.
With the fake encounter reported as genuine encounter, many commando perso- nnel involved in the killing might have received gallantry awards and promotions based on recommendations of their senior officers.
Since the truth has been revealed, it must be ensured that justice is delivered to the victims at the earliest possible time, he added.
SP AK Jhalajit should be kept under suspension until the final verdict of the case is issued by Court.
Chaoba then appealed to the Government of India to investigate the confessions of Herojit and ensure that all those commando personnel involved in the killing of Sanjit and Rabina are awarded befitting punishment according to law.
Meanwhile, a five-member delegation of BJP Manipur Pradesh comprising of president Th Chaoba, general secretaries Ashnikumar and Basanta Sharma, former Minister V Hangkhalian and Saratkumar called on BJP National president Amit Shah at 3 pm today.
The team apprised the BJP National President about the prevailing social and political issues of Manipur who in response assured all possible help from the Central leadership. Amit Shah also thanked Th Chaoba and his team for building a formidable support base of BJP in Manipur.
Exhorting the State team to work harder to accelerate the party’s momentum in the State keeping in view the ensuing election for Imphal Municipal Corporation and State Assembly election next year, he assured all possible assistance from the National office and BJP leadership.
Amit Shah exuded confidence that there will be a BJP Govt in Manipur after the next State Assembly election.
The State team highlighted that the recent confession of ‘killer cop’ Herojit showed the cool blooded killing of Ch Sanjit on July 23, 2009 under the command of his superior officers and highly responsible persons.
On being enquired about the Indo-Naga peace talk, the BJP National president assured that BJP will honour the wisdom of people of the State.
